5 tips to help you hire a real estate agent
We want to help you hire a real estate agent. Not just any agent but one that will work well with you and get you the most money for your home. Let us get right to it!
1. Read their reviews online, for instance. There is no shortage of places where people can review real estate agents online. You can go to USDRE, Zillow, realtor.com, Google, Facebook, Yelp and all kinds of different platforms. USDRE has by far the most comprehensive amount of reviews. But go read a bunch of their reviews and see what other people had to say about how they did.
2. Check them out on social media is our second tip. Are they professional? Are they talking about drinking every Friday night? Does that match up with who you are and who you want to work with?
3. Check out their YouTube channel and their blog, if they have one. Because no matter how busy they are, adding content to their YouTube and blog should be a priority . There are a ton of old-school agents out there, who simply rely on the name of their company for their visibility. They don’t share information except about the houses that they’re selling.

Are you on social media?
No way around it, your agent should be on social media. As a result, they can get your home seen by more people. Do you want somebody that understands the power that social media can bring, that a YouTube channel and blogging will bring? Or, do you want somebody that’s just going to put that house on the MLS and wait for other agents to show it for them? Maybe you’re old school and you don’t really care about social. Your potential realtor should, though. If that’s the case, talk to them first and meet in person to see if your personalities match up and see what their strategy for selling your home may be. USDRE is an incredible resource to learn about the agents in your area quickly and easily so you can get started that much sooner.
4. Look at some of the properties they currently have for sale, read the description and see what they write. Do they write about the house in a way that makes you the reader interested in the house and want to come see it? Is the information accurate? I’ve seen a lot of listings on the MLS where the zip code is wrong, the HOA fees are wrong, etc. If they can’t be bothered to get the information right when they’re putting it out there for all the world to see, they’re probably not very detail oriented. You are going to want a real estate agent that puts in the full effort and has an eye for detail. This is so crucial when it comes to advertising the house.
5. How do they advertise the house? Besides putting it on the MLS, because that’s the easiest part of the job. For example, when I enter the property into the MLS, it goes out to Zillow, realtor.com, and all of those big web sites automatically. I don’t have to do anything extra. Do they have a single property website? It doesn’t have to be the street address, it could be something like perfecthome.com. It should be a specific URL for your property, where they’ve got details about the house. Maybe a video with a 360 degree virtual tour, video walk-through, or other information not necessarily available on the MLS.
So, what other things do they do to market that property? Because it’s important to know! If you’re paying commission, you want to know that they’re spending that money wisely, right? Getting your house in front of as many potential buyers as possible. What you don’t want is a lazy agent. Because lazy agents won’t help you much and more importantly, they won’t get you the buyer you deserve.
